Description:
Slovanka lookout tower is the oldest iron lookout tower in Bohemia. It has been standing since 1887 on the same-named peak in the Jizera Mountains between the Lučany and Janov n. N. municipalities. It is thanks to three sections of the German Alpine Club for the Ještěd and Jizera Mountains –jablonecká, janovská and hornokamenická sections. They bought the lookout tower which used to stand as an exhibit of Austrian iron works at an exhibition in Vienna. In May 1887 on Seibtův hill (Mr. Seibt donated a parcel of land for the construction of the lookout tower) the first building permission proceedings took place and already on 14th August of the same year the lookout tower was standing. Just one bricklayer built the 3 m high base wall and two workmen assembled the 11 m high tower during 17 days. 5000 people came to the opening of the lookout tower and thanks to a voluntary fee, more money was collected, than the actual cost of the construction and transport of the lookout tower.
